Park Description
Thompson Pond was formed as the glacial ice melted 15,000 years ago. Today it is a thriving ecosystem of marsh, swamp, forest, and pond. A stopover for migratory birds, it also hosts almost 400 different plant species. The pond and its surroundings have been preserved by the Nature Conservancy and are designated a National Natural Landmark. See also Stissing Mountain Fire Tower.
