Title

Hunting Expands to Harriman State Park

Body

Hunting areas in Sterling Forest and Harriman State Parks have been expanded to include essentially all park areas west of NY Route 17.

Hikers should be aware of the new hunting areas extending into western sections of Harriman Park. These changes render somewhat obsolete the hunting definitions shown on the Sterling Forest Trails Map No. 100.

Note that the Wildcat Mountain Trail is now entirely with the hunting area. North of Route 17A the hunting area continues to include the Sapphire (except for the Appalachian Trail Corridor), Indian Hill, Furnace, Townsend and Long Meadow Extension Trails. The former archery-only area located north of Greenwood Lake, west of Penaluna Road is now an antler-restricted firearms hunting area.

The Doris Duke areas remain closed to all hunting.

For more complete details contact Sterling Forest State Park at 845-351-5907.

The regular (firearms) hunting season began on November 21 and ends on December 13. Bow season will resume December 14 to December 22.
