Parking Limits Expected at Minnewaska State Park Preserve

May 16, 2019

Minnewaska State Park Preserve is expected to experience regular parking shortages and short-term closures due to multiple construction projects underway this year. The Park Preserve is open during construction but parking capacity in the Lake Minnewaska Area will be reduced significantly through the summer of 2020. Parking areas will fill early and there will be fewer opportunities to backfill empty parking spaces. Visitors should expect more frequent closures due to all available parking filling to capacity, and plan to arrive early or visit another park. The construction projects will create a sustainable arrival experience for visitors for future generations to come. Projects include the creation of new parking areas, pedestrian and vehicle circulation improvements, new walkways, landscaping, storm water and sewer management infrastructure, undergrounding utilities, and a new Visitor Center.

The fee for parking at Minnewaska is $10 per car and the park preserve opens at 9 a.m. daily.   Minnewaska State Park Preserve consists of more than 23,000 acres of wild and scenic land located on Route 44/55, five miles west of the intersection with Route 299 in New Paltz, N.Y.
