About the Crew

The Rip Van Winkle Hikers have been active maintaining trails in the Catskills since the club’s inception in 1991. In addition to many Rips who maintain trail sections as individuals, our Rip Van Winkle Hikers Trail Crew maintains several sections of trails in the Catskills. The trails are maintained twice a year - once in Spring and then again in Fall. The crew is proud to help provide a safe and pleasant hiking experience for all hikers.

Please consider joining the Trail Crew for a satisfying experience by contacting us by email at [email protected]

Where We Work

In the Catskills, the Rip Van Winkle Hikers Trail Crew maintains the section of the Black Dome Range trail from the Barnum Road trailhead to the Camel’s Hump as well as the section of the Long Path from Palenville to the snowmobile junction below Kaaterskill High Peak. The crew also conducts work trips on other trails in the Catskills as the need arises. In Minnewaska State Park, the Rip Van Winkle Hikers Trail Crew works on various trails as needed with a particular focus on the Scenic Trail and the Jenny Lane Trail.

Training

No experience is necessary. We provide on-site training for each work trip and have tools to lend.
